Company Founder, and Managing Director, Peter J. Ellams first visited Grenada in 2013 as a consulting engineer to St. George's University. His team was able to uncover the multiple causes of ongoing indoor air quality issues in some of the largest buildings in the West Indies. 

After developing corrective actions to eliminate the underlying construction defects, Mr. Ellams was asked to manage a multi-phase project to fix seven "Superdorm" buildings at the SGU Campus, each housing between 160 and 300 students.

From the start of his work in Grenada Peter noticed how poorly mass production doors withstood the tropical environment in the West Indies. Costly, imported doors and other furnishings made with soft-woods, composite, or engineered materials covered with thin veneers fail quickly, leaving owners with warped and blemished finishes that are susceptible to termites and water damage.

Desmond & Westhead, Ltd. was established with the goal of providing a high quality, durable, and lower cost alternatives to these imports. Made locally in Grenada, using only sustainably harvested hardwoods, our doors are resistant to insects, rot and other defects.

When installed professionally by our Grenadian craftsmen, using modern means and methods, our products will look great for decades requiring only minimal maintenance and periodic refinishing.

Having successfully delivered many door orders D&W is now producing custom windows and other casework for other hospitality developments and retail operations throughout the West Indies .
